A Few Fun Signs around Delhi ....
This one was great! In the U.S. we say "No parking or you will be towed" kind of thing - I love it that here in India, they will "challaned" you but I first wondered if there is a typo and they mean vehicles will be *challenged*?! (it is, however, a derivative of challenged). An online dictionary said "found no references" for this term, then another search explained it! In Asia it means payment for receipt
of goods. This sign tripped me up at first. When you visit museums, events, monuments, Temples, etc. as a foreigner you might as well get used to paying anywhere from double to triple the entrance fee that Indians pay. People don't need to show an ID or anything, it's the "honor" system - yet at the same time, believe me, they KNOW if you are a "foreign visitor"!!!

CRICKET is the national sport of India and these folks LOVE their Cricket lemme tell ya! I thought this was a great Ad as a way to get people out of the house, off the couch, and into the arena - Seems we might need something in the U.S. that says "Can your T.V. pause and ride a wild class V rapid?"

This sign about the "lawn" was confusing to me as well - I see the tree with bench for the visual but thought this was referring to someone's front yard! This is the sign for *neighborhood park*! Being a parks professional, I thought "that's quite unique!"

This sign was in front of the Sunder Nagar commmunity park. There is a small office that I later learned is housed by folks who are available as a resource working for the "Women's Welfare Association" This is a great statement:

Hi Nina,
Great signs. I especially like the first one.
Thanks for letting us experience your incredible trip to India with you. It was very interesting! I hope you have a very safe trip home (you'll probably be freezing in San Francisco!)
Love,
Uncle Steve
