Raj Ghat/Samadhi of the Gandhi Trio
"When Shah Jahan established his city in 1638, its eastern edges bordered the River Yamuna, and a line of ghats, or steps leading to the water, was installed along the riverbanks.
Ghats have been used in India for centures, primarily for worships, but also for washing clothes and bathing and for the final ritual, cremation."
Raj Ghat is the site of the cremations of 3 of modern India's most powerful and revered leaders ever: Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and her son, Rajiv. This place is also a beautiful park beyond the history of a ghat (re: this is located quite a distance from the river) ... There are signs requesting that people do not bathe or wash clothes in the lake in the park, tho'.
I could feel the Gandhi spirits when I was there - it was amazing! A place of worship daily ...

The Mahatma's samadhi is a low black plinth that receives a steady stream of visitors....
The samadhi of Indira Gandhi is marked by this tall, red-gray stone monolith .....
Rajiv is honored by a striking "frieze"...
Generally speaking, this park is absolutely fabulous -
I als0 finally got to visit and stroll around the Central Ridge Reserved Forest to experience the grandeur of the Buddha Jayanti Commemorative Park as well as the Laxmi Narayan Birla Mandir temple - Here's me at the park:
